Quality Management System for Automotive

Developed by the International Automotive Task Force (IATF) working group, IATF 16949 is a quality management standard specifically for the automotive industry. Based on the internationally recognized quality management standard ISO 9001, IATF 16949 is supplemented by numerous automotive-specific requirements. It primarily targets automobile manufacturers and companies in the spare parts and series production sector.

The IATF 16949 standard aims to ensure constant quality throughout the entire supply chain. The continual improvement process has been developed to increase customer satisfaction as well as identify failures and risks in the production process and supply chain in order to eliminate root causes and evaluate the effectiveness of corrective and preventive measures. Most leading automotive manufacturers will only work with companies that hold IATF 16949 certification, as they insist that suppliers adhere to the strict technical specifications laid out in the standard.

In October 2016, IATF 16949:2016 was published to replace ISO/TS 16949. As of September 2018, all ISO/TS 16949 certificates have expired. The major changes from ISO/TS 16949 to IATF 16949 included an emphasis on product safety, expansion of focus on risk management, supplier management, and others.

There are 2 stages: Transfer review/Transfer certificate and actual audit.  Once the transfer review/transfer certificate was conducted, we will call the next audit a regular audit (RC or Surveillance)
